Biodiversity Conservation in Arunachal Pradesh

by Prof. Ramana Athreya (IISER, Pune)

Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from to (Asia/Kolkata)
at TIFR, Colaba, Mumbai ( AG - 66 (Lecture Theatre) )
Description
"Arunachal Pradesh in North-east India is one of the top global hotspots of biological diversity. Despite its small size its pristine forests host almost two-thirds of India's diversity. However, the state is socio-economically very backward, has a very high population growth rate, has a largely dysfunctional governance structure and hosts a good fraction of the active militarised border between India and China. I will discuss some of the challenges that these factors pose for wildlife conservation, and some of our efforts which have striven to conserve the wilderness while being responsive to the legitimate developmental needs of the state."
