Description
Although the post-natal brain is mostly incapable of neuronal generation or regeneration, it harbors stem cells containing neurogenic niches in restricted locations, one of which is the hippocampus, where new neurons are produced every day. This process, known as Adult Neurogenesis, is important for higher cognitive functions that influence memory, mood and behavior. My talk will focus on hippocampal adult neurogenesis, where I will discuss some of our findings probing into the molecular workings of this process. My lab interrogates the molecular functioning of the adult brain from a cell biologist’s standpoint. In this context, I will touch upon the possibility that a single transcription factor plays distinctive roles influencing multiple cell-types and processes in the adult brain.
