Description
The Standard Model of particle physics is the most successful and well-tested physics theory to date. However, we still lack answers to several fundamental questions which will require extending the Standard Model beyond it’s current state. Collider experiments are the frontline in discovering new particles. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is currently running and four principal experiments (ALTAS, ALICE, CMS and LHCb) are collecting data at the energy frontier. After the discovery of the Higgs Boson on 2012, the search programme at the LHC has expanded considerably towards looking for new physics beyond the Standard Model. In this talk, I will present the latest techniques in understanding LHC results in terms of a new physics model. Using three well-motivated theories of new physics, I will outline the ingredients that go into making a discovery and demonstrate how LHC results are being used to predict new signals and constrain new physics scenarios.
