Description |
In the last ten years, there has been a lot of progress in extending the thermodynamic Bekenstein-Hawking black hole entropy formula towards an exact formula valid at all values of charges. This has led to and in turn has been inspired by parallel progress in the understanding of string theoretic black holes and their relation to microscopic counting formulas, extending the work of Strominger and Vafa. The process of this extension throws up many technical problems as well as conceptual issues. In this talk, I will review some of these issues and then present some of my work in tackling them in the context of string theoretic black holes. |
