The Changing face of Transportation in Mumbai: Mumbai metro 3

Description
Greater Mumbai is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. Moving 10 to 15 million people within the city on a daily basis is a gigantic challenge. In order to transform the way the city commutes, a comprehensive Metro network of 270 kms with 11 Metro corridors is planned and put under execution by the state government.
  
Mumbai Metro 3, one of the most important corridors of this comprehensive network, is a fully underground 33.5km long line from Colaba to Seepz with 26 underground stations. It is being executed by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation with a total project cost is Rs. 23,136 crores. This corridor, which is expected to be completed by 2021 will carry 17 lakh passengers per day. This project is going to be an engineering marvel with deployment of state of the art technologies in civil as well as various systems packages. 

About the Speaker:
Ms. Ashwini Bhide, an IAS officer from the batch of 1995 of Maharashtra cadre, is a post-graduate in English Literature from Pune University.  She was ranked first among women candidates in Civil Service Examination in year 1995. Ms. Bhide has held key positions such as Chief Executive Officer in Zilla Parishad, Additional Divisional Commissioner, Joint Secretary to the Governor of Maharashtra, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner in Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) etc. during her two decades in IAS cadre. During her tenure of 21 years as civil servant, Ms. Bhide was responsible for execution of major infrastructure projects in Mumbai such as Eastern Freeway, Elevated road to International Airport  as well as Mumbai Monorail.
