Description
Terrestrial gravitational experiments are subject to magnetic fields of both local and global origin. A change in the field can masquerade as a gravitational effect and hence needs to be shielded. In addition to the regular daily variations, the Earth’s magnetic field also exhibits irregular disturbances caused by interactions of solar activity with the field. In this seminar, we shall present the measurements performed at the Gravitation Lab and discuss the instrumentation built to carry out these measurements. We shall also dwell on how the same equipment is capable of making sensitive measurements of the magnetic field independently.
