Effect of Diffusing Disorder on an Absorbing-State Phase Transition

Absorbing-state phase transitions arise in diverse areas, such as
population dynamics and catalysis, and are intimately connected with self-organized criticality; scaling properties at such transitions have attracted increasing attention among physicists.  In this talk, following a brief review of simple examples and of experimental studies of absorbing-state transitions, I shall discuss recent work on the effect of mobile disorder, in the form of diffusing vacancies, on the Contact Process, the best known model in this area of study [1].
