Description
Optical single-molecule studies have proven to be highly versatile for probing multiple processes, from basic chemical dynamics to complex biophysics. This lecture will touch upon two abundant single-molecule optical methods. First, the application of FRET to study single-molecule dynamics will be described and demonstrated with examples from the literature and from our own work. Second, we will show how the possibility to observe Raman scattering form individual molecules using SERS has opened new horizons for the so-called molecular plasmonics field, where the interaction of molecules with metal nanoparticles leads to novel phenomena.
