Description
OPC UA is the current Industry standard for process control and
automation. Basically, it provides rules and information about how
software applications and devices can send and receive different kinds of
data between each other. The upcoming ground-based gamma-ray observatory
CTA (Cerenkov Telescope Array) is gearing up to install a large number of
Imaging Telescopes of different sizes and complexities over an area of ~1
sq km. And there would be 100s of hardware devices/systems associated with
the telescopes and the array which need to be controlled and integrated
into a central Array Control & Operation software. The ACTL (Array
Control) work group within CTA collaboration has prescribed OPC UA based
solution to be implemented by device teams. The talk will try to answer
the questions like: what is OPC UA? Why does OPC UA matter? etc. The
speaker will illustrate an OPC UA server by providing a prototype server
developed for a weather station.
