The Nb-Ti alloys are potential candidates for the fabrication of high-field superconducting magnets. However, the hazardous consequences due to the induced radioactivity of the elemental Nb limit the usages of the Nb-Ti alloys as the base material for the superconducting magnets for thermo-nuclear reactors where the magnets may be subjected to long term neutron irradiation. Superconducting Ti-V alloys have special concerns in the development of high-field magnets for thermo-nuclear reactors particularly due to their excellent mechanical property and their freeness from any induced radioactivity hazard.

The talk will cover the a detailed study on the binary Ti-V alloys in their normal as well as superconducting state, performed with the help of the measurements of the physical properties like the electron transport, magnetic, and thermal properties. A major portion of the talk will deal with the discussions on the experimental indications of the spin fluctuations in the physical properties of the Ti-V alloys in their normal state, and also the possible influence of the spin fluctuations in the superconductivity of these alloys. In addition, few other interesting phenomena like peak-effect, high-field paramagnetic Meissner effect and Bose-glass to vortex-liquid transition will be discussed for providing a comprehensive picture of the superconducting mixed state of the Ti-V alloys.
