Description
Electron induced chemistry has been considered to be a major contributor to various chemical processes in the interstellar medium as well as in the planetary atmosphere. Low energy electrons are known to play a significant role in radiation damage of living cells. On the other hand, the demonstration of control in bond breaking in organic molecules using dissociative attachment of low energy electrons has opened up a plethora of possibilities for electron controlled chemistry. In our efforts towards understanding these processes and the structure and dynamics of anion states responsible for them, we have come across some intriguing features of low energy electron-molecule interactions. In this talk, I will present these results that give a glimpse into the world of excited states of molecular anions which are extremely challenging to study using existing theoretical tools.
