ASET Colloquium

The Science and Status of The Electron Ion Collider

by Prof. Abhay Deshpande (Stony Brook University)

Description
Despite many decades of experimental and theoretical investigations, important aspects of the strong force remains un-understood. A common feature of those un-understood phenomena seems to be rooted in the collective behavior and emergent properties of matter that result from the quark-gluon interactions. A brand new facility is now being designed to explore & understand QCD as never been possible before. In this talk, I will highlight those unanswered questions, and present status of planning and design of the Electron Ion Collider (EIC) and possible experiments at the EIC.
