Description
The CMS Outer Hadron (HO) Calorimeter was built as a tail catcher for hadronic showers. However, it is also sensitive to MIP signals from muons. In the first half of my talk I will talk about the prospects of using the HO along with the barrel muon chamber (MB) to recover lost muons for Level 1 triggering. In the second half I will speak on stop-pair searches in tau final states at CMS with p-p collision at 13 TeV center of mass energy. Current stop production exclusions are in leptonic and hadronic final states, which are not applicable to a high tan beta or higgsino-like scenario where decays to tau final states are enhanced. I will detail the data-driven background estimation methods, the signal region optimization, and the current status of the analysis.
