Description
Simulating detector response has become an essential tool in nuclear and high energy physics of modern days. CMS is no exception to that. Starting from the day of inception, CMS has developed a detector simulation tool-kit which has been used in the design of the detector, understanding the collision data and estimating signal efficiency and background contribution for all analysis chains. There has been a continuous effort in improving the quality of simulation not just in the accuracy of the predictions, but also in robustness and performant in modern days computing world. CMS is currently using a general purpose tool-kit Geant4 and from the very beginning has been contributing to the development of Geant4. Some of these efforts will be reported along with its current status and future direction.
