Description
Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT) is a Department of Atomic Energy unit primarily working in the areas of design, development and utilization of lasers, particle accelerators and related technologies.  Over last 3 decades many laser systems are developed at RRCAT. The laser program at RRCAT is instrumental in design, development and deployment of various lasers and related systems particularly for Department of Atomic Energy applications. In this talk, recent contributions of Laser Group, RRCAT in various areas related to remote operations for repairs and retrieval of components in high radiation area of nuclear reactors, machine vision based inspection systems for nuclear fuel, biomedical applications , industrial applications will be presented . 

About the Speaker:
Mr. Shankar V. Nakhe obtained his B.E. degree in 1985 from Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli, Maharashtra.  He worked for one year in Semiconductor industry. He joined laser program of RRCAT in 1987 after graduating from the 30th batch BARC training school from electronics engineering discipline.  Subsequently he obtained M.S. (Engg.) from Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. Currently he is Director of Laser Group at RRCAT, prior to that he handled the responsibility of Laser Systems Engineering Division and Laser Control & Instrumentation Division at RRCAT.

He worked on design and development Copper Vapour lasers and dye laser systems and applications of these lasers. He also worked in the area of high voltage pulse power supplies for laser systems. He is recipient of first position award in his University for under graduate studies, C. Ambasankarn Memorial Award for best paper and DAE group achievement award.
