Theoretical Physics Colloquium

Dissipationless Nernst effects

by Prof. Vadim Oganesyan (City University, New York)

Description
After an overview of the recent renaissance of magnetothermoelectric (Ettingausen-Nernst) effect in high temperature superconductors and other correlated materials, I will compare and contrast three different theoretical approaches to this phenomenon: Boltzman kinetics, hydrodynamics and some very recent and exact results in "high" magnetic field. The latter applies to recent experiments in 3D semimetals, graphene and some semiconductors (e.g. HgTe:Fe).
