Description
Recent cosmological observations have established that our universe is dominated by dark energy and dark matter, while ordinary matter makes up only a few percent of its total energy density. The nature of these two mysterious components is unknown and their origin pose some of the most pressing questions in fundamental physics. After reviewing the ingredients of the cosmological model, we will describe the main physical probes which allow us to accurately measure the geometry, evolution and large-scale structure of the universe. We will then describe the observational status of these measurements obtained from current ground-based and space telescopes. Finally, we will describe the potential of future experiments designed to study the dark universe with high precision, highlighting open issues in theory, data analysis and instrumentation.
