Description
Certain regularities, observed in neutrino mixing, suggest the presence of some discrete family symmetry - specifically in the νμ - ντ sector. We first review the entourage of such discrete symmetries/antisymmetries proposed in the literature and, in particular, their complex extensions. We then zero in on a particular case which seems most promising: a complex-extended mixed νμ - ντ antisymmetry (with a mixing angle θ) in the neutrino mass matrix Mν. All phenomenological consequences of this proposal are worked out and successfully compared with data from neutrino oscillation experiments as well as bounds from the lack of observation as yet of neutrinoless double beta decay. Predictions on flavor flux ratios for the ICECUBE detector are also enumerated.
