Academic Writing: How to Get it Right

Scholarly communication is essential for effective dissemination of research outcome and plays a key role in the academic career and growth of a researcher. This talk will provide an overview of the essential aspects of manuscript structure and language with reference to some prevalent errors. A number of assistive tools for manuscript preparation and their application will be described. Important points on ethics in publishing will be highlighted. Finally, some channels of science communication beyond academia will be briefly discussed.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Sudeshna Dasgupta did her B.E. in Electronics and Telecommunication from Bengal Engineering and Science University, Kolkata, and PhD in Physics from HBNI, Mumbai. She also worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the University of Bristol, UK. Her interest in science communication motivated her to pursue the role of an academic editor. She is currently a Senior Associate Editor with the Physical Sciences & Engineering team at Cactus Communications. She is a BELS-certified editor and has worked with several ESL authors to help them publish in leading journals.
