Description
Despite their simplicity, thermal models have helped to extract surprizingly large amount of information from analysis of heavy ion data and even offered one of the most outstanding signatures for the QCD phase transition. We discuss aspects of thermal model analysis of data produced in heavy ion and elementary collisions at various energies. We discuss what can be learned for the QCD phase transition from such models and what are the prospects to deepen this understading. Furthermore, we show new results on a thermal model prediction for a Dark Matter candidate that has been proposed recently.
