Description
Exploration of the phases of QCD under extreme conditions has been a topic of immense discussion over the last decades. Attempts have been made both from theoretical and experimental workfronts to understand the QCD phases and transition between them. In the first part of the talk I shall discuss the status of our knowledge about the phase diagram for the physical values of quark masses or equivalently the physical value of pion mass. I shall discuss the phase transition for different directions in the phase plane spanned by temperature and baryon chemical potential and the status of the search for the famous although yet elusive critical end point. In the next part I want to discuss some new results towards the chiral limit and how our latest calculations are and will be helping to answer long standing questions about the nature of the QCD phase transition in the chiral limit.
