Description
The talk will first introduce the dose deposition profile of photons, electrons and ions. Then the statistics of current cancer incidences in India along with therapy machines will be compared. A brief overview of radiotherapy machines developed at SAMEER will be presented. Advantages of hadron therapy will be explained compared to radiotherapy followed by the world hadron therapy scenario. A comparison of different technologies used for the acceleration of ions will be presented. Then SAMEER’s proposal for Multi Ion Hadron Therapy will be introduced along with what is Induction Synchrotron concept and its proof of principle experiments. Next, the expected features of a next-generation hadron therapy machine will be covered. After that Multi Ion Hadron Therapy machine features and its details will be presented.

About the Speaker:

Tanuja Dixit has done M.Sc. (Physics) from Mumbai University in 1997 and joined SAMEER in the same year. She played a crucial role in establishing the 6 MeV Linac technology and dual-mode linac technology for cancer therapy and has successfully integrated several linac structures. She took up advanced studies leading to Ph.D. at High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), Japan in 2005 and was awarded Ph.D. in 2008. At present, she is working towards the design and development of 30 MeV electron Linac for the generation of medical radioisotopes. Currently, she is also working on the design of the Multi Ion Hadron Therapy Accelerator based on a fast-cycling induction synchrotron. She has published over 45 papers in Journals and Conference proceedings.
