Description
Science is a creative endeavour. Like all such endeavours, it benefits from diverse participation. Unfortunately, scientific institutions still struggle to reduce barriers to the entry and progress of many underrepresented minorities, including women. The ability to attract, retain and promote women is key to good science and great institutions.

Picture a Scientist (Recognizing and Dismantling Biases) is a film by Sharon Shattuck and Ian Cheney. It is an acclaimed film with scientists who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all. Commemorating International Women’s Day – 2021, the film was shown through several screenings at TIFR, Mumbai as well as at its Centres at Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad during this week. As a fitting culmination of this programme, the panel today will discuss the many issues surrounding diversity in Indian science with a particular focus on women.
