Description
The recent direct discovery of gravitational waves opens up new horizons in astrophysics, cosmology and tests of general relativity. In this talk I will discuss examples including probes of the formation of supermassive black holes, constraints on the graviton mass and Lorentz violation by gravitational waves, exploration of possible phase transitions in the early Universe and searches for cosmic strings I will stress the interest of possible measurements by atom interferometers in the dec-Hz range between LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA/LIGO-India and LISA, and by pulsar timing arrays at low frequencies.
