Description
After a brief introduction to large deviations in general, the focus will be on the large deviations in the context of thermodynamics of small systems that are kept out of equilibrium by external driving. Three particular aspects, namely: (1) the fluctuations of time additive observables such as the work done and the heat flow in a given duration, (2) the effect of hidden degrees of freedom on the symmetry properties of the large deviation function corresponding to the entropy production, and (3) the large deviation of the ratio observables such as efficiency will be discussed -- emphasizing our exact analytical calculations on model systems and connection to experiments.
