Description
AWS provides the most elastic and scalable cloud infrastructure to run your high-performance computing (HPC)/supercomputing applications. With virtually unlimited capacity, scientists, engineers, and researchers can innovate beyond the limitations of on-premises HPC infrastructure. AWS delivers an integrated suite of services that provides everything needed to quickly and easily build and manage HPC clusters in the cloud to run the most compute-intensive workloads. These workloads span the traditional HPC applications, like computational biology, genomics, computational chemistry/materials science, high energy physics, financial risk modeling, computer-aided engineering, drug designing, weather prediction, and seismic imaging, as well as emerging applications, like machine learning, deep learning, and autonomous driving.

HPC on AWS removes the long wait times, sequential computation, and lost productivity often associated with on-premises HPC clusters. Flexible configuration and virtually unlimited scalability allow you to grow and shrink your infrastructure as your workloads dictate, not the other way around. You can very well design high throughput applications taking advantage of the AWS cloud HPC infrastructure. Additionally, with access to a broad portfolio of cloud-based services like Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML), you can redefine traditional HPC workflows to innovate faster.

Today, more cloud-based HPC applications run on AWS than on any other cloud. Academic institutions like CERN, NASA, NIH, etc., and industrial R&D of Bristol-Myers Squibb, FINRA, BP, and Autodesk trust AWS to run their most critical HPC workloads.

In this talk, we will be focusing on the AWS cloud HPC technology components, architecture, differentiators, and some examples of applications and their performances in AWS cloud HPC.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Barry Bolding has over twenty-five years of experience in High-Performance Computing (HPC) as business development and product strategy leader. Dr. Bolding is the WW GTM Director for High Performance, Autonomous, and Quantum Computing at AWS. Dr. Bolding’s career has spanned technical and business roles at a number of leading HPC companies, including Cray Inc., SGI, and IBM, and for ten years served in executive roles at Cray Inc., a world leader in on-premise HPC solutions. Over the course of his career, Dr. Bolding led teams focused on PreSales, Business Development, Product Management, Strategic Partnership and served as the GM for HPC Storage. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University and has published numerous papers in the area of computational modeling of physical and chemical systems. This diverse background gives Dr. Bolding a unique and balanced perspective on the convergence of cloud services and high-performance computing and the impact this convergence will have on the enterprise and government marketplace.
