Description
The data collected during Run 2 (2016-2018) of the LHC has enabled measurements of the Higgs boson's properties such as its mass, decay width, production cross sections, couplings, etc .with an unprecedented precision. The diphoton decay channel of the Higgs boson is very well suited for such measurements owing to the excellent resolution with which photons can be reconstructed with CMS electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL).
In this seminar I will focus on two such high precision measurements performed in the diphoton decay channel. The first is a measurement of the Higgs boson mass with the 2016 dataset of CMS which is the most precise till date. The second is a set of comprehensive measurements also from CMS, using the full Run 2 dataset, in which the production properties of the Higgs boson are measured. All major Higgs boson production mechanisms are considered, enabling a wide range of measurements to be performed. Highlights include the first CMS measurement of Higgs boson production in association with a single top quark in this decay channel, and a simultaneous measurement of 27 independent Higgs boson production parameters.
The talk will cover in detail the dedicated photon object calibration and other novel analysis strategies that were developed to make these precision measurements possible and will conclude with a discussion on future directions to enhance the reach of searches and measurements in this sector.
