Description
GRAPES-3 is a high-altitude, near-equator astroparticle physics experiment, located in Ooty, Tamil Nadu, consisting of 400 scintillator detectors and nearly 4000 sealed proportional-counters operating round the clock. Everyday, the experiment records more than three million cosmic ray showers in the TeV-PeV energy range as well as four billion muons (> 1GeV), generating ~50 GB of raw data. An Object Oriented, customized data analysis framework has been developed based on the C++ language and CERN ROOT libraries for efficient storage, fast access and visualization of both experimental and simulation data as well as the monitoring of the detector systems and extraction of physics outputs concerning atmospheric, solar and Galactic phenomena. The framework consists of over 100 modules and about half a million lines of code. This talk will discuss the key features of this complex endeavor which has not only improved the quality of the data collection, but also accelerated the research that helped discoveries.
