Description
Most of the fingerprint recognition systems use touch-based acquisition devices, which suffer from important intrinsic problems, such as non-linear deformations of the captured images, non-uniform contrast of the fingerprint regions, presence of latent fingerprints on the sensor surface, sensibility to dust and dirt, and low social acceptance. Touchless fingerprint recognition systems based on CCD cameras have been studied in order to overcome these problems. These systems can be based on two- or three-dimensional representations of the biometric trait. However, the design of accurate touchless fingerprint recognition systems is a challenging task since the samples present relevant differences and non-idealities compared to fingerprint images acquired using traditional touch-based sensors. This talk will describe state-of-the-art techniques for touchless fingerprint recognition, analyze their performance, and discuss open problems and research trends.
