Description
Simple arguments involving quantum mechanical uncertainties $(\Delta x \Delta p \geq \hbar, \Delta E \Delta t \geq \hbar)$ and classical theory of gravitation strongly suggest that spacetime should possess a "grainy" structure at short distances. Despite this graininess, the usual relativistic Poincar\'e symmetries can be realized on this spacetime, although in a novel manner. This has important consequences in quantum field theory for the notions of locality and causality, and in particular, for the spin-statistics connection. In this talk we will review some of the implications of these consequences in particle physics.
