Description
I will present a fully non-perturbative, lattice-based description of the chiral (ABJ) anomaly of massless Dirac fermions in even spacetime dimensions. The origin of the anomaly, the need for anomaly inflow, and the connection with the gravitational anomaly become simple kinematic facts from this point of view. Along the way, some additional lessons about fermionic lattice systems will be learned: in particular, a new “classical” anomaly – baby version of Witten’s SU(2) anomaly – will be shown to hold in certain theories.
