Description
India today is severely water-stressed, with only 1,544 m3 per capita (per year) water availability. As the population grows and water resources continue to become depleted, we are fast moving towards becoming water-scarce in the coming decades.
Looking at how water is used in India, presently 50-60% of urban drinking water is lost in distribution due to leakages, 80-85% of wastewater goes untreated, directly polluting our groundwater, lakes and rivers. Even in agriculture, where 80% of India's freshwater is consumed, farmers use an estimated 2 to 4 times more water to produce a unit of major food crop as compared to countries such as China and Brazil. Fluid Robotics, a start-up founded by Silicon Valley engineers, develops advanced technologies for water infrastructure monitoring and management, and precision agriculture, with the goal of minimizing water loss and maximizing water reuse.
