Description
In usual quantum field theories the entanglement entropy of a region is UV divergent. We explore the question of whether such quantity, if properly defined, could be finite in string theory. In examples of holography where the emergent space comes from the target space of a usual quantum field theory such a definition is possible. I will review a calculation of this target space entanglement entropy in the c=1 Matrix Model. The result is finite, and easily understood from the matrix model point of view, but somewhat mysterious from the closed string point of view since the scale which makes the quantity finite is the string coupling. In this talk I will describe how this finiteness is a non-perturbative property of the collective field theory which is related to the closed string description.
