The Neutrino Oscillation Industry

by Prof. Prof. Maury Goodman (Argonne National Lab)

Monday, October 25, 2010 from to (Asia/Kolkata)

Description
The phenomenon of neutrino oscillations, which imply that the neutrinos have a non-zero mass, was discovered at the end of the 20th century. This resulted from a world-wide program of experiments studying the neutrinos which come from the sun, the atmosphere, nuclear reactors, accelerators, and other possible sources. The twelfth international workshop on Neutrino Factories, Superbeams and Beta Beams will have just concluded at TIFR. I will spend about 1/3 of the talk describing the history of the neutrino and neutrino oscillations, about 1/3 describing the ambitious suite of current neutrino experiments around the world, and the final third on the goals and opportunities for a new round of even-more-ambitious future experiments involving neutrinos.
