The Subaru telescope, located in Hawaii and operated by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), as one of the handful of 8–10m class telescopes in the world, has been an important contributor of astronomical data. This includes pushing the high-redshift frontier by discovering the most distant galaxies, constraining cosmological parameters by measuring the cosmic matter distribution via weak gravitational lensing, and high-resolution imaging of protoplanetary disks and exoplanets.
In this workshop, we aim to bring together about forty Indian and Japanese experts on six areas of Subaru-enabled research. The goal of the meeting is twofold: (a) we will showcase Subaru-related research by Indian as well as Japanese participants, and (b) we will bring together Indian and Japanese astronomers to discuss the instrumental capabilities of Subaru and opportunities for future projects and collaborations enabled by these capabilities.
