In this talk, we discuss several contexts in which heavy physics does not decouple from the light sector that gives rise to inflation and quantify modifications to CMB observables that result. One particular context is when the field manifold exhibits non-trivial curvature that dynamically mixes heavy and light directions as inflation progresses, as is typical in certain models of stringy inflation. Another context arises when the adiabatic approximation is violated due to non-trivial dynamics in the heavy sector. The goal of the talk is to sketch an overview how these, and similar results can allow us a window into the UV complete theory in which the putative inflaton field is embedded. |
