Description
The study of supernova neutrinos involves the interesting non-linear collective oscillation phenomena of neutrinos. It consists of three phases: synchronized oscillations, bipolar oscillations and spectral split. The bipolar oscillations are important since a complete flavor conversion may occur in the inverted hierarchical scenario. In this talk I shall discuss the onset of the bipolar oscillations that can be understood in analogy with the motion of a spinning top. I shall describe the circumstances under which the top starts to nutate from the purely precession mode. Numerical results show the onset conditions depend on the vacuum mixing angle. This will also be explored in this talk.
