Description The Solenoidal Tracker At RHIC (STAR) is one of the large detector systems constructed at RHIC to investigate the properties of strongly interacting matter produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. A comprehensive study of hadrons, electrons, muons, and photons produced in these collisions is crucial to accomplish this goal. A unique strength of the STAR is its large, uniform acceptance, capable of measuring and identifying a substantial fraction of the particles produced in heavy-ion collisions. In this talk, we will discuss the STAR detector subsystems, emphasizing the detectors used for particle identification, such as Time Projection Chamber (TPC), Time-of-Flight (TOF), Ring Imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detector, Muon Telescope Detector (MTD), Photon Multiplicity Detector (PMD), etc. A comparison will be made with similar detector subsystems installed at ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment). Some of the physics results obtained from these detectors will also be highlighted.
